Hartmann Ammann (b. 21 June 1856), canon of the Augustinian Order, Gymnasium professor at Brixen in Tyrol, published in the 46th and 47th programs of the Gymnasium at Brixen (1896 and 1897) a treatise with the title, Die Wiedertäufer in Michelsberg im Pustertale und deren Urgichten (124 pp.). In the presentation, the court records preserved in the f.b. court archives at Brixen were used. The confessions extorted from the Anabaptists, often by means of torture, reveal many details about the spread of the Anabaptist movement in Tyrol in the second and third quarters of the 16th century. The booklet contains valuable information about the success of Anabaptist leaders such as Jakob Hutter, Hans Amon, Offrus Griesinger and Leonhard Lanzenstiel. In many points it complements the research of Josef Beck and Johann Loserth on the Anabaptist movement in Austria in the 16th century.
