Anslo, Reyer (1626-1669)
Reyer Anslo was the nephew of Cornelis Claesz Anzo. He was born in Amsterdam in 1626 and died at Perugia, Italy, 16 May 1669. A distinguished poet, he wrote 155 Bijbelsche Printverbeeldingen, De Parijssche Bruyloft (a tragedy), De Martelfyoon van Steven, Schilderkroon and De Pest te Napels. He was baptized by the Waterlanders in 1646, but in 1649 was won over to Catholicism by the Jesuits and went to Rome, where he took holy orders and entered the service of Cardinal Luigi Capponi.
