Bauer, Hans (1670?-before 1751)
Hans Bauer (Baur), b. 1670 or 1671 at Oberhofen in Switzerland, was married to Anna Willener of Sigriswil (b. 1678) on 19 February 1702. Both joined the Mennonites, Hans not until 1711. In 1711 they lived at Courbes above Landeron in the canton of Neuchâtel. They were well-to-do. With their four children they left their native land for the sake of their faith, leaving Basel on 13 July 1711, arriving at Amsterdam 3 August, and at Sappemeer in the Dutch province of Groningen at the end of August. At Sappemeer Hans Baur bought 15 acres of land on 10 March 1712, and a house on the Kalkwijk. They belonged to the Amish branch. Hans Bauer died before 1751; his wife, who was still living in 1738, preceded him in death. They were the progenitors of the Groningen Boer or de Boer family.
