Bethany Mennonite Church (Virgil, Ontario, Canada)
Box 249, Virgil, ON, L0S 1T0. (905) 468-3505. 572 East & West Line (Corner of Creek Rd.) Pastors Randy Klaassen and Renate Klaassen served in 2001 as congregational leaders. In 1965 there were 171 members; in 1975, 286; in 1985, 364; in 1995, 304; in 2000, 299. The congregation has been affiliated with the Conference of United Mennonite Churches of Ontario (1965-1988), Conference of Mennonites in Canada/Mennonite Church Canada (1965-), General Conference Mennonite Church (1965-1999) and Mennonite Conference of Eastern Canada (1988-). The language of worship is English.
The congregation began services and formally organized in 1964. The first building was occupied in 1965. David Janzen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through church planting by the Niagara United Mennonite Church.
