Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church (New Dundee, Ontario, Canada)
1531 Bridge St., New Dundee, ON, N0B 2E0. (519) 696-2284. Pastor Graham Burkhart served in 2000 as a salaried congregational leader. In 1900 there were 159 members; in 1925, 204; in 1950, 156; in 1975, 177; in 1985, 187; in 1995, 176. The congregation has been affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren in Christ (1883-1947), the United Missionary Church (1947-1969), The Missionary Church (1969-1993) and the Evangelical Missionary Church (1993-). The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the 1870s.
The congregation began services in 1855, and formally organized in 1877. The first building was occupied in 1878, with subsequent building programs in 1921 and 1969. The congregation originated through division from the Mennonite Conference of Ontario in 1855 over the latter conference's resistance to revivalism.
