Burkholder, Hans (1671?-1752)
This Hans Burkholder was made preacher of the Mennonite congregation at Gerolsheim, Palatinate, in 1702. Repeatedly he sent requests to the brethren in Holland for support of his hard-pressed and impoverished congregation. After having experienced much hardship through the relentless Palatinate government, he died in 1752. Though an emigration to America was visualized, the plan was never carried out. The Amsterdam Mennonite Archives contain a number of letters by him, the first dated 1 October 1730, the last one 4 August 1751.
