Calleken (Lijnken, Lijntgen, Lijsken) Meevels, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at Antwerp, on 26 February 1571, together with Maerten van Wijk and her husband Jan van de Walle. She was a native of Kortrijk (Courtrai), Belgium, and was 40 years of age. Two years before the execution she was married at Antwerp by Michiel de Leertouwer, the preacher of the Antwerp Mennonite congregation. About 11 or 12 years before she was put to death, she had been rebaptized at Doornik (Tournai), Belgium, by Joachim Vermeeren. She signed the trial herself: Ic Kalleken Meeuwels. She remained steadfast and died as a true lamb of the Savior.
