Calvary Memorial Church (Evangelical Mennonite Church), Chicago, Illinois. The Salem Gospel Mission at 248 Root St., Chicago, was opened on 24 June 1908, with Mr. and Mrs. J.  K. Gerig as superintendent and matron. The outgrowth of this work was the Southwest Gospel Tabernacle located at 1217 West 72nd St., which was erected in 1930. The Calvary Memorial Church was organized as an outgrowth of the Tabernacle in 1944. In the mid-1950s the congregation was operating as a self-sustaining church. It had a two-story brick church and a six-room brick veneer parsonage at 221 West 72nd St. The membership in 1947 was 61.
