Christijntgen (d. 1570)
Christijntgen was an Anabaptist martyr and wife of the martyr Willem Vernon. Willem had been arrested on Ascension Day, 4 May 1570, when a meeting of the congregation was held in the environs of Bruges, Belgium. Christijntgen, who had been able to escape, was seized in Bruges that same night by the burgomaster. Together with Grietgen, the wife of Kaerle de Raedt, because she remained steadfast in the truth, she was burned at the stake within the castle of Bruges. Van Braght (Martyrs' Mirror) states that this execution took place in 1568. This is wrong. Christijntgen and Grietgen were put to death in 1570, the exact date being uncertain (probably 20 May).
