Civilian Public Service Unit (Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA)
The Norristown State Hospital, Norristown, Pennsylvania, was the location of Civilian Public Service Unit No. 66, from December 1942 to October 1946. Over 160 men served in this unit, which was under Mennonite administration. The average was 100 men for much of the period. Although the men served primarily as attendants in the mental hospital, after a period of time they were being used in nearly all of the activities of the institution. Files is a 48-page yearbook published by the men in the unit. Norristown continued to be a center for work for men in I-W service.
