Menno Cressman (5 November 1861-1953) was born near New Dundee in Waterloo County, ON, the son of Samuel and Barbara Cressman. His grandfather Abraham Cressman came to Waterloo County in 1806 from Chester County, PA. In 1887 M. C. Cressman was married to Mary Ann Nahrgang of New Hamburg, ON, daughter of Joseph Nahrgang, a Mennonite preacher. She died in 1948.

There were two children from their marriage, Grace (Mrs. M. L. Shuh) and Joseph Boyd. After several years' experience in Hanover and New Hamburg, M. C. Cressman came to Berlin, now Kitchener, in 1892 and conducted his dry-goods business there until he retired in 1927. Both he and his wife were active Mennonite Church (MC) workers in First Mennonite Church of Kitchener (MC) and in the Mennonite Conference of Ontario (MC). From 1910 to 1929 he served as financial representative in Ontario for the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities of Elkhart. Later he served a 5-year term on the executive committee of this board.
