Damme, Elysabeth van (17th century)

Elysabeth van Damme (nee van Blenckvliet) was a member of the Flemish Mennonite congregation of den Blok at Haarlem, Holland. Together with her husband Jaques van Damme she founded the Zuiderhofje (an old people's home) there in 1640, and after the death of her husband contributed liberally to the orphanage of the Flemish congregation here. According to another tradition she was the founder of this (first Dutch Mennonite) orphanage. The remarkable "ordere van 't weeshuys van den Block," signed 15 May 1643, is found in the archives of the Haarlem congregation.
