Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church (Elm Creek, Manitoba, Canada)
Box 104, 146 Poplar Ave., Elm Creek, MB, R0G 0N0. (204) 436-2290. Pastor John Willems served in 2000 as a congregational leader. In 1930 there were 20 members; in 1955, 183; in 1965, 120; in 1975, 150; in 1985, 191; in 1995, 174; in 2000, 201. The congregation has been affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (1929), the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1929), and the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1929). The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the 1960s.
The congregation began services in 1925, and formally organized in 1929. The first building was occupied in 1937, with subsequent building programs in 1950 and 1986. H.J. Wiebe is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through immigration from the Soviet Union.
