Enns (Entz, Ensz, Enss, Ens, Enz, Enten)
This Mennonite family name was originally found in the rural Flemish congregations of West Prussia. Members of this family migrated to Russia and North America. While in South Russia the family mostly adopted the spelling form Enns. Most Mennonites with this family name are now located in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Kansas, California and Arkansas.
Well-known Canadians from this family include Daniel P. Enns (1877-1846), who served as secretary-treasurer of the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization, and J. H. Enns (b. 1889), who served as elder of the Schönwiese Mennonite Church in Winnipeg.
