First Mennonite Church (Burns Lake, British Columbia, Canada)
The congregation began services in 1953, and formally organized in 1959. The first building was occupied in 1955, with subsequent building programs in 1962 and 1984. N. N. Friesen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization of Sommerfelder and Old Colony Mennonites from Saskatchewan in the early 1950s.
The position of pastor was vacant in 2006 (pastors have been salaried since 1954). In 1965 there were 58 members; in 1975, 107; in 1985, 115; in 1995, 125; in 2000, 128; in 2006, 107. The congregation has been affiliated with the Conference of Mennonites in British Columbia / Mennonite Church British Columbia, the Conference of Mennonites in Canada / Mennonite Church Canada (1967- ), and the General Conference Mennonite Church (1978-1999). The language of worship is English.
