(14 May 1859-19 October(?) 1926). Klaas Heide was born in Manitoba (?) and later lived in the village of Grunthal, which was established 1877-1879.  Heide was a leader of the Old Colony Mennonites, and was repeatedly delegated to negotiate with the Canadian government and to investigate settlement possibilities. In 1919 Heide and Cornelius Rempel, both of Manitoba, Julius Wiebe and David Rempel of Swift Current, and Johann P. Wall and Johann Wall of Hague, Sask., went as delegates to South America to find a place of settlement for the Old Colony Mennonites of Canada. In 1920 Heide again took part in the investigation of settlement possibilities in Mexico and was instrumental in purchasing land.  Although he held no formal office in Mexico, he remained an influential member of the colony. Heide died in Blumenort, Mexico in 1926.
