Hilltop Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Fort Vermilion, Alberta, Canada)
Fort Vermilion, Alberta T0H 1N0 780-927-3341. Located 1 km south of Fort Vermilion. Minister Greg Toews served in 2001 as a non-salaried congregational leader. In 1985 there were 73 members; in 1995, 71; in 2000, 89. The congregation has been affiliated with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The language of worship is English.
The congregation began services in 1958, and formally organized in 1968. The first building was occupied in 1961, with subsequent building programs in 1968 and 1988. John W. Friesen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization of northern Alberta.
The congregation grew out of the work surrounding a children's home in Fort Vermillion. The congregation operates the Vermilion Peace School.
