Horsefly District Amish (Horsefly, British Columbia, Canada)
Horsefly, BC. Located in Cariboo County, BC. The small settlement was affiliated with the Old Order Amish. The language of worship is German.
The settlement existed between 1969 and 1972 when several families immigrated from Ohio and Indiana. Jonas Hochstetler was the founding leader of the group; he had owned a sawmill in Ohio and was attracted by the lumbering possibilities in British Columbia. The settlement failed because farming practices were unfamiliar, and the community was located at a great distance from other Amish communities.
