Keg is the name of a Dutch Mennonite family, found at Zaandam, North Holland since the early 17th century. This family was engaged in shipbuilding during the 17th and early 18th centuries. After a period of economic decline the family became prominent again about 1830 in oil milling, the cheese trade, and cheese export, particularly to England. Many members of the Keg family have served as deacons in the West Zaandam Mennonite congregation and in a few other congregations. Pieter Keg, of Zaandam, was a trustee of the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit (Dutch Mennonite general conference) from 1873-1881.
