Kerber (Körber, Kerwer, Körffer) family
Kerber (Körber, Kerwer, Körffer) is a Mennonite family of West Prussia, Germany, recorded as early as 1586. Especially in the Montau-Gruppe and Deutsch-Kazun congregations they were found from the early 17th century. Steffen Kerber was (1737) a preacher of the Montau Frisian (sometimes also called Waterlander) congregation. Another Steffen Kerber (1734-1800) served this congregation as preacher from 1767 and as elder from 1781; Peter Kerber (1782-1821) served as preacher from 1801 and as elder from 1814; another Peter Kerber as preacher from 1801. Others served as deacons. They were apparently all farmers. In 1940 there were 42 bearers of the name in East Germany. The name had not spread into other countries as of 1957.
