Lourens Janssen (Louwereyns Jansz Nooddruft) was an Anabaptist martyr who is named twice by van Braght, once (Martyrs Mirror, Dutch: 726; English: 1036) as Lourens de Schoenmaker, and again (Dutch: 747; English: 1055) as Louwerens Jansz Nooddruft. He was a shoemaker of Delft, Holland. He was arrested at Antwerp in August 1576 and after a severe imprisonment was burned at the stake on 18 January 1577. Since no writing materials were available to him, he wrote two letters to his friends by scratching them with a pin on pewter spoons, which show a deep piety. One of them said, "Grace and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ be with you my very dear and in God beloved sister in the Lord, Weyndelken and her daughter M.; this I wish you from the depths of my heart before God, who searcheth the hearts and reigns, that you may walk before Him unharmed and unhindered in His truth, to which He has called you; and always look to Christ and to all the righteous. Adieu, in this time, adieu."
