Mannheim Mennonite Church (Petersburg, Ontario, Canada)

The Mannheim Mennonite Church in Petersburg, Ontario began services and formally organized in 1832. Mannheim was first known as Latschar Mennonite Church. The first building was occupied in 1839, with subsequent building programs in 1853, 1908, and 1980. Jacob Hallman is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through immigration from Pennsylvania.

In 1900 there were 72 members; in 1925, 125; in 1950, 125; in 1965, 107; in 1975, 80; in 1985, 94; in 1995, 110; in 2000, 117. The congregation has been affiliated with the Mennonite Conference of Ontario and Quebec (1832-1988), Mennonite Church (1898-1999), Mennonite Church Canada (1995-) and Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (1988-). The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the early 1900s.

1494 Bleams Rd., Petersburg, ON, N0B 2H0. (519) 749-1581. Located 1 km west of Mannheim on the north side of Bleams Rd. Pastor David Tiessen served in 2002 as a congregational leader.
