During the period of inflation of German currency, 1922-1923, an association was formed in Munich, South Germany, with the name Mennonitische Studentenhilfe (Mennonite Student Aid), whose objective was to lighten the economic need of Mennonite students and to offer them a home in which they would have inexpensive living and opportunity for Christian association. In January 1922 the association secured a four-story house between the Institute of Technology and the University of Munich, in which Mennonites and non-Mennonites could live. When living quarters were put under state control in 1926 the association could no longer function. It was nevertheless possible to assist several Mennonite students with loans of several thousand Marks, making it easier for them to attend the university.
