Mensingeweer (Groningen, Netherlands)
Mensingeweer is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen, in the former Marne region. In 1607 Jan Cornelissen was called the "bishop and preacher of the Mennonites at Mensingeweer." There was, however, no congregation here. The Mennonite congregations in this region greatly decreased both in number of congregations and in membership in the 17th century. On 11 November 1816 Houwerzijl (or Vliedorp), Ulrum, den Hoorn, Rasquert, and Obergum merged. A centrally located church was built at Mensingeweer, dedicated on 4 April 1819, and soon also a parsonage. An organ was acquired in 1899. The baptized membership numbered 21 at the time of the merger; 75 in 1861; 95 in 1900; 75 in 1956.
The first minister was S. K. de Waard, serving here 1821-1826, followed by J. Leendertz 1832-1837, I. de Stoppelaar Blijdenstein 1838-1839, W. Bruin 1840-1844, D. S. Huizinga 1846-1847, H. ten Cate Hoedemaker 1849-1850, H. A. van Gelder 1851-1853, J. P. Muller 1854-1857, A. Vis 1861-1863, J. A. Oosterbaan 1863-1866, G. Vrijer Azn. 1868-1873, A. Vis 1917-1920; after another period of vacancy it was served by the pastor of Noorbroek 1924-1945, and the pastor of Uithuizen 1946-1950; after 1954 J. Lange was the pastor of the Mensingeweer congregation. In the mid-20th century a new parsonage was acquired at Eenrum. There was a ladies' circle.
