Oosterwijk, van, family

Van Oosterwijk (Oosterwijck), a former Dutch Mennonite family found in a number of towns in Holland. Most of its members were merchants; some were bankers. Willem van Oosterwijk was a deacon in the Mennonite congregation at Utrecht in 1651-1656 and 1661-1663. In Amsterdam members of the van Oosterwijk family were found in both the Lamist and Zonist congregations, a number of them serving as deacons. A lateral branch of this family was the well-to-do van Oosterwijk Bruyn family, which is descended from Jan Bruyn and Georgina Josina van Oosterhout, who lived at Amsterdam in the 18th century; Willem van Oosterwijk Hulshoff also belonged to this family.
