Salem Mennonite Brethren Church, sometimes known as the Colby Mennonite Brethren Church, now extinct, located 4 miles southwest of Mingo, Thomas County, KS, was organized in 1922, with P. E. Dahl as leader. From 1920 on, when Mennonite Brethren and General Conference Mennonite families moved into the area, members of both conferences met for worship under the leadership of D. J. Heinze. When additional families of both groups arrived each organized separately. Because of disunity and the depression members moved to Colorado and California. The congregation was dissolved in 1934. The highest membership was approximately 40. The church building has been preserved by a former member for possible future use.
