In November 1981 the Doopsgezinde Vredesgroep (Dutch Mennonite Peace Group), the Doopsgezinde Zendingsraad (Dutch Mennonite Mission Board), the Stichting voor Bijzondere Noden (Foundation for Relief Needs), and the Werkverband Doopsgezinden en Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (Work Group for Cooperation between Mennonites and Development Work) united to form this one agency. The purpose of this union was primarily to emphasize to the congregations that each of these activities are a part of the total assignment of our churches, that is, service of the Christian church to the world. The intent was to make clear that this work must have a place in the programs of every congregation.

Steps taken to achieve this included, the publishing of an annual project book; several announcements throughout the year in the church weekly paper, Algemeen Doopsgezind Weekblad; and coordination of the annual meetings of these agencies. Each of these kept the others informed of their plans and activities also.
