Schouten family name
Schouten, a common Dutch family name. There was a Mennonite Schouten family in the Waterlander congregation of Amsterdam from ca. 1580, where Lourens Jans Schouten was a deacon from 1612, as were some other members of this family. The Schoutens of Amsterdam were engaged in business and well-to-do. Maerten Schouten was a lay preacher at Knollendam 1754-ca. 1774.
