Timmerman family name

Timmerman, a common Dutch family name, "timmerman" meaning carpenter. In Mennonite history a number of Timmermans are found, in many cases not related to one another. Herman (de) Timmerman was a well-known Mennonite elder in Flanders. Cornelis Jentjes Timmerman was a Mennonite lay preacher at Harlingen in Friesland 1713 - d. 1765, who is said to have possessed a considerable library, which was auctioned after his death. In Prussia and particularly in the towns of Danzig and Königsberg, there lived also a number of Mennonite Timmermans, from the 18th century usually called Zimmerman(n). This Prussian Timmerman-Zimmerman family is obviously of Dutch descent.
