Umstatt, Hans Peter (17th-18th centuries)
Hans Peter Umstatt moved from Krefeld, Germany, to Germantown, Pennsylvania, in 1685. His daughter Eva married the immigrant Hendrick (Heinrich) Pannabecker. His son Johannes (John) Umstatt moved in 1702 or shortly after to Perkiomen Township along the Skippack. C. Henry Smith assumes that the Umstatts were Mennonites, and this is probable since later descendants called Umstead were to be found in the Mennonite Church in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
