Banman, Cornelius (1839-1892)
Cornelius Banman: pioneer farmer, born 30 September 1839 to Franz and Anna (Toews) Banman. He was the fourth of six children. He was baptized on 1 June 1859 and married Anna Gerbrandt, born 8 Jan 1840, daughter of Johann (1817-1889) and Anna (Dyck) 1818-1860) Gerbrandt, on 16 October 1860. She was the eldest of 15 children. Cornelius and Anna Banman lived in Heuboden, Bergthal Colony, Russia. They had ten children, six of whom lived to adulthood. The family emigrated from Russia to Canada in 1874 and settled at Blumengart, Manitoba.
Cornelius Banman took out a homestead at SE35-7-5E on 29 October 1874 and another quarter section at NE26-5E in 1880 where he farmed while continuing to live in the village of Blumengart. Cornelius died on 23 November 1892 at the age of 53. Anna died on 23 September 1922.
Cornelius and Anna Banman were pioneers, making a new life for their family in Canada.
