Eva Pieters, widow of Gheeraert Listync, an Anabaptist martyr, was born in Alkmaar, Dutch province of North Holland; she was baptized in Münster in Westphalia while the city was besieged by the bishop’s army. When the city was taken on 25 July 1535, she succeeded in escaping to the Netherlands, where she was taken prisoner, but saved her life by renouncing her faith. She then went to Belgium and joined the Anabaptist congregation at Bruges. Since there were no traces of Münsterism in this congregation, it may be assumed that she had given up all Münsterite ideas. When she was seized she remained steadfast and loyally sacrificed her body for the sake of Christ. On 20 August 1538 she was burned at the stake in Bruges together with Josyne Schricx.
