Klaas Simons Gorter, a brother of Douwe Simons Gorter, b. 19 May 1822 at Oosternielend near Zijldijk, became preacher at Den Up in 1850, and the first trained preacher at Ameland in 1852. Two years later he managed to bring about a union between the two congregations on this island. He worked here at Hollum until 1895, and died on 25 June 1901. He was married to Tryntje Kat. He published an important study of the Mennonites on Ameland in Doopsgezinde Bijdragen 1889-90.
