Gossau (St. Gallen, Switzerland)
Gossau is a village in the canton of St. Gall, Switzerland, in which the Anabaptist movement had a large following in 1525-1527, the first years of its existence. On 16 May 1530 an Anabaptist was executed here (see St. Gall). Balthasar Hubmaier, who was arrested in the canton of Zürich in 1525, was to be brought to Gossau upon the wish of the magistrate Berger, to recant "in the largest church." Gossau was also the home of Jakob Falk, the second martyr in the canton of Zürich, who was drowned on 5 September 1528.
