Griesbach (Freistaat Bayern, Germany)

Griesbach (not Grichsbach; also known as Bad Greisbach im Rottal) is mentioned in Wolkan's Geschicht-Buch (p. 182) as the place in Styria, Austria, where five Anabaptists gave their lives for the faith. But there is no place with this name in Styria. Beck has correctly placed Griesbach in Bavaria near Passau (coordinates: 48° 25′ 55″ N, 13° 11′ 5″ E) in his Geschichts-Bücher. It is a market village in the government district of Wegscheid, four and one-half hours from Passau and three hours from Wegscheid, situated on a hill which rises from the Danube Valley. Two of the five Anabaptists executed here, Hans Pranthüber, a preacher, and his wife, are named in Codex Kremser (N), dated 1581, now in the library of the Pressburg Domkapitel.
