Grijspeert (Gryspeere, Grisperre, Gryspeer, Grijspaart) family
Grijspeert (also Gryspeere, Grisperre, Gryspeer, Grijspaart), a family in Flanders, Belgium, found in the region southwest of Bruges, of whom many joined the Mennonites, fled from Flanders to the Northern Netherlands about 1580, because of religious persecution, particularly to Haarlem. Many members of this family have served as deacons, both in Haarlem and Amsterdam. The preacher Pieter Grijspeer (Grijspeert) belonged to this family.
Fierin Grysperre, living at Hemelghem near Yseghem, who was cited by the Calvinistic church council of Ghent, Belgium, on 19 July 1583 to answer for his Mennonite faith, may have been a member of the same family.
