Hans Hentrock, an Anabaptist martyr of Ammern in Thuringia, joined the Anabaptists in 1534, but was induced by friends and relatives to leave them, was baptized 30 July 1537, and was seized in October of that year; under torture he begged for mercy and declared himself willing to recant. He was, however, not released, and soon regained his conviction; he died a martyr's death with a joyful confession of his faith before the assembled crowd by drowning in the Unstrut between Mühlhausen and Ammern, 17 January 1538.
