Hochfeld (Morozovo) was a village of the Yazekovo Mennonite settlement near Chortitza, Russia, established in 1869. In 1918 it had 92 farms and 5,070 acres of land which was reduced to about half that acreage under the Soviets at the time when the village was farming its land collectively. In 1914 the population was 313 and by 1941 it had increased to 608. In 1919, 19 persons were murdered and in 1929-1941, 53 were exiled. At the outbreak of the war with Germany in 1941, 12 persons were evacuated eastward. During the German occupation the community had a church, a choir, and a school with three teachers and 77 pupils. When the Germans withdrew the population was taken along; some were returned to Russia by the Red army, while others reached Canada.
