Lootsma, Sipke (1888-1940)
Sipke Lootsma (1888-1940) was a schoolteacher and later a professor at the Lyceum at Zaandam, Netherlands, who wrote a number of historical papers. He also published some books, including De Zeildoekweverij te Krommenie (1928) and Bijdrage tot de Geschiedenis der Nederlandsche Walvischvaart, meer speciaal Zaansche (Wormerveer, 1937). Of great interest for Mennonite history is the memorial volume which he wrote on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the meetinghouse of Zaandam-West. This book, entitled Het Nieuwe Huys 1687-1937, Friesch-Doopsgezinde Gemeente West-Zaandam (Zaandam, 1937), was published by the church board. Lootsma was a deacon of this congregation from 1935 until his death.
