Joseph Willich (1808-1872) was a deacon (Mennonite Church), of Reformed background, who came to the Niagara area of Ontario, was employed by John Boyer, married one of his daughters, accepted the Mennonite faith, settled on the Sodom Road south of Niagara Falls and a few miles south of Chippewa. In his home in Willoughby Township, north of Bertie, Ontario, services were conducted for several years while he was active. This and the Riverside church afforded the places of worship for Mennonites of this area about the middle of last century. There was no organized work. The ministers in Willoughby were Christian Hershey, Jacob Miller, and John Zavitz.
