Sudermann, Daniel (1550-1631)
Daniel Sudermann (1550-1631), a Schwenckfelder, was born at Liége, France, 24 February 1550, died at Strasbourg, Alsace in 1631. He was a painter and engraver by profession, as well as a successful poet. One of his 435 hymns, "Elend nit schad, wer tugend hat," is found in Wackernagel, Kirchenlied V, No. 827. Many of his hymns are found in Protestant hymnals. Christian Sepp published a thorough study of Sudermann in his Kerkhistorische Studien (1885): 238-77.
