Swift Current Mennonite Settlement near Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, was established in 1926 by approximately 1,000 Old Colony Mennonites from Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The settlement consists of some sixteen villages and is located northwest of the larger Manitoba Mennonite settlement. The land was purchased in the name of two settlers from each village. The settlement has its own civic administration (Oberschulze) and is an independent ecclesiastical unit with its own elder (Jacob Peters). In 1953 the population was 2,694.
