Tiessen, Peter (ca. 1764-1826)
Peter Tiessen, Jr. and Peter Tiessen, Sr., were ministers and elders of the Danzig Mennonite Church during the time of transition from the lay to the salaried ministry. Peter Tiessen Jr. was elected minister at the age of thirty-six, 17 August 1800, to help his father, Elder Peter Tiessen, who had been elected minister in 1774. It was during their ministry that the Frisian and the Flemish churches were united in 1808. When his father died on 17 March 1825, the son was elected elder. He died 1 October 1826, and was succeeded by Jacob van der Smissen, the first theologically trained minister of Danzig.
