Widmer, Hans (18th century)
Hans Widmer, the son of Johann Jakob of Sumiswald in the Emmental, Switzerland, fled during the persecution of the 18th century to Voverence near Vaufrey, Doubs, in France. His wife was Katharina Graber of Huttwil. Hans Widmer was the progenitor of the widely ramified Mennonite Widmer families. Five sons and two daughters left numerous progeny, some of whom immigrated to America. His oldest son, Johannes, had 8 children, Peter had 11, Christian had 14, Daniel had 13, and Jakob had 8. Hans Widmer died at the age of 103.
