Bergthal Mennonite Church (Didsbury, Alberta, Canada)

R.R. 2, Didsbury, AB, T0M 0W0. (403) 335-4451. Located three miles south, nine miles east of Didsbury. Pastor Elwin Garland served in 2007 as a congregational leader. (Pastors have been salaried since 1967.) In 1950 there were 155 members; in 1965, 204; in 1975, 176; in 1985, 178; in 1995, 159; in 2000 156. The congregation has been affiliated with the Conference of Mennonites in Alberta, Conference of Mennonites in Canada (1912-) and General Conference Mennonite Church (1938-). The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the 1960s.

The congregation began services in 1901, and formally organized in 1910. The first building was occupied in 1903, with a subsequent building program in 1948. Isaac Giesbrecht is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization by Manitoba Sommerfelder Mennonites.
