Egbert (d. 1558)Egbert (de Hoedemaecker), an Anabaptist martyr, a hatter. He was taken prisoner at a meeting near Doornik in Belgium, first brought to Doornik and then to Bergen (Mons), where he was tried. He was executed by burning at the stake at Obignies near Doornik in 1558 (exact date unknown) with five other brethren. All remained steadfast. BibliographyBraght, Thieleman J. van.
