Grace Mennonite Brethren Church was established as a result of a cooperative effort between local Mennonite Brethren and the Associated Gospel Churches (AGC) of Canada, which began ministry in the area in 1957.  The product of this initial ministry was Grace Gospel Church with the congregation constructing its first building in 1960.

It was not until 1982 that Henry Unrau approached the chairperson of the AGC board to discuss a potential Mennonite Brethren church in Penticton by way of a possible collaboration between Grace Gospel Chapel and the local Mennonite Brethren who were attending the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at the time.  On 7 March 1982, the first joint service was held.  With fifty-seven members, the congregation was chartered with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches on 18 April 1982, taking the name Grace Mennonite Brethren Church.  The first pastor of the new church was Edward Hamm, who began his ministry on 19 September 1982.

In 2010 the congregation's membership was 56 with an average weekly attendance of 49.
