Kreider, John Mellinger (1869-1946)
John Mellinger "J. M." Kreider (24 May 1869-28 February 1946) was born at Soudersburg, Lancaster County, PA. He was oldest of the 12 children of George and Anna Mellinger Kreider. He received all his formal education in the Soudersburg public elementary school. On 24 November 1890, he married Hettie Elvina Buckwalter and became the father of nine children. He was a member of the Paradise Mennonite Church, Lancaster, and as a young man was very active in Sunday school work. He lived in Lancaster County until 1898, when he was ordained to the ministry and moved to Palmyra, Missouri, USA), to be the pastor of the Mennonite church there. He was ordained bishop for the Northeast Missouri churches in 1912. He served as a member of the Mennonite Board of Education for many years, conducted evangelistic meetings throughout the United States and Canada, and served on many committees of the church. He supported his family on a dairy farm at Palmyra, on which he lived until his death on 28 February 1946.
