Maillaert de Grave, of Leisele, near Veurne in Flanders, Belgium, was a member of the Mennonite congregation in his native village, together with his wife Valentyne Ryckele. Paulus van Meenen was for a time the elder of this congregation. Later Maillaert, who was a cabinetmaker, moved to Bruges and participated in the life of the congregation there; meetings were held in his home. In February 1568 he, his wife, and their three children were arrested. Though they recanted, their petition to the Duke of Alba was rejected and both Maillaert and Valentyne were burned at the stake at Bruges in July 1568.
