In 1995 there were 176 members; in 2000, 331. The congregation has been affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (1991-), Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches and General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. The language of worship is English. The congregation began services in 1991. The congregation began meeting in a storefront at Broadway Avenue and Maryland Street in downtown Winnipeg. The first building was occupied in December 1992. Paul Wartman is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated as an effort of local Mennonite Brethren congregations and the Manitoba Board of Missions and Church Extension. The Meeting Place emphasized a more contemporary worship style at the time of its formation.
